Is this dirty tricks, ‘transparent’ government or clever manipulation of a situation to gain public sympathy? The publication by HM Treasury of the letter penned by Paul Myners in reply to Sir Fred Goodwin’s correspondence appears to me to be an unusual step to have been taken. I can’t remember another occasion where such ‘private correspondence’ made its way into the public domain. I’ll leave you to decide whether it was morally right to publish it but for my part, I think that the government is out to get its man. See:
And just in case it crept by you without you noticing, we the taxpayers, have now guaranteed £6bn of Royal Mail pensions. Almost deftly hidden away in the detail, and masked by a week when the major banks have left us all aghast at multi-billion pound losses, what is £6bn between friends. See:
