A couple of innovative services have been launched this week. The first is Standard Life’s ‘ all-around employee wealth plan’ which includes its very first group ISA. The second is RBS’s launch of a generic advice service from within around 1,000 of its branches spread across the UK.
Both come at a time when many people are struggling to maintain contributions to their retirement provision, so both services are to be welcomed for different reasons.
ISAs are being recommended more and more as a way to save towards retirement, particularly for younger people, rather than starting a pension. There is an argument for this in certain circumstances, although care should be taken to explain the advantages and disadvantages of both vehicles as part of an overall retirement planning solution. Otherwise it might eventually haunt the client, as well as come back to bite the adviser. See:
