Pensions and the importance of dividends 
 
For many pension schemes, a great deal of the investment returns comes from dividend income, so I’ve posted a couple of articles worthy of attention which relate to that fact. In particular, it must have shocked many to hear that Eurotunnel is about to declare its first dividend for shareholders. As The Times writes:
 
Ironically, confirmation of the maiden dividend (from Eurotunnel) comes as a clutch of household names, including British Airways, Rentokil, Persimmon, Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds and ITV, are cutting their dividends to preserve cash.’
 
But what surprised me most was the sentence that followed and which reveals how important BP’s dividend income is to UK pension funds. I had no idea. See:
