Pensions: will history repeat itself?
|
A couple of interesting pension articles featured over Easter. The first on Friday was the effect of the recession on recent divorce settlements:
The second is a report in The Observer about the instability of retirement provision in the UK. Harriet Meyer, the reporter says about the build up to the present recession:
“Credit mania was a mass disincentive to save. Besides, many of those who thought they were being prudent, investing in share-based funds, now find that their money would have been safer under the mattress. This leads me to highly recommend a BBC programme that I’d taped and watched yesterday morning called 1929: The Great Crash. It’s an hour long documentary and so much more than a lesson in history. As many of the commentators said within the programme, the similarities between 1929 and today are staggering! If it's ever repeated and you get the chance, watch it if your can.
