Population trend sends out a pensions warning
|
The effects of greater life expectancy are discussed throughout today’s media articles after the Office for National Statistics published its latest figures on the breakdown of the population in the UK. The Independent leads with, ‘There are now more pensioners in Britain than under 16s – with explosive consequences for NHS and pensions’. Other reports look at different aspects such as the quality of life in later retirement, healthcare and degenerative illnesses. See:
And, for those of you like me, who like to see the actual data as well as read the reports, I was interested to see what the average age in the UK is now and even more surprised to see that it had leapt by 2 years since 1997. See:
