Will recession kill off new pension provision? 
 
I must say that I’m not yet the greatest fan of Personal Accounts – but I can’t really put my finger on any one reason why not. It’s like an itch that I can’t scratch. On the one hand, we do need a concerted effort as a nation to address the growing pension crisis – but consumer confidence has been dented and that will take some rectifying.  
 
It probably has something to do with the fact that there is growing evidence to show that some employers who provide pension provision for their employees will dumb down their existing contributions, and that’s an unwelcome and unintended consequence. So, I wasn’t at all shocked to see Royal London’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Gareth Evans comment on the likelihood of Personal Accounts not proceeding as planned. See:
