My late husband died in Oct 2009.
He was in an final salary occupational scheme from Feb 1978 to Dec 1987. He left that job and then transferred his deferred company pension to a "section 32" pension policy with a private pension provider in Mar 1988. He also made AVC contributions to the scheme which were also included in the transfer.
I am still in discussions with the private pension provider regarding the details of the surviving spouse annuity quote they have given me. I have asked them to show me in layman's terms how they have come to the figure they are quoting me, and I am still waiting for a satisfactory answer. (Each time I query something I get a different explanation!)
What items of data and calculation guides do I need to check what the private pension company is telling me? Or, is there an organisation/company/individual that I could approach to check for me?
The (dis)service I have received from the pension company has been awful and that is why I am so mis-trusting of them.
I need to sort this out as my children and I need the money to live!
